How to play

Game Rules

Trade all 18 AFL clubs like stocks. Read the form, ride the results, and build the biggest portfolio by the season's end.

The one rule

They win, you rise.
They lose, you fall.

Every result moves the market. Hold the clubs about to surge, sell the ones about to slide. That is the whole game.

  1. 01

    The market

AFL Market is a virtual stock market for footy. Buy and sell shares in AFL teams based on how they perform each round, and aim to grow the most valuable portfolio in the league.

  2. 02

    Starting funds

Every player kicks off with $10,000 in virtual cash. How you invest and grow that capital is what carries you up the ladder.

  3. 03

    Buying and selling

All teams list at $100 a share. Trading is free and unlimited, with no fees and no broker, so you can shift strategy on the fly and react to game-day form as often as you like.

  4. 04

    Game dynamics

Before each game a favourite and a point spread are set. Beat the expectation and your shares climb; fall short and they slide. Trading locks at the first bounce and reopens after the final siren, so make your moves count.

  5. 05

    The bailout

If a team's share price ever hits $0, it gets bailed out. Existing shares are written off to nothing, then the club relists at $100. It is a brutal moment for holders, but a fresh opening for anyone hunting a bargain.
